You will receive a packet of 15 Seeds from our White Butterfly Pea plants growing in sunny Florida. Home grown using organic and regenerative growing methods with lots of love and zero chemicals, pesticides, or synthetic fertilizers. The seeds are from our most recent harvest and are fresh viable seeds ready to plant.
Growing Info & Tips
White butterfly pea is a stunning flowering vine perfect for trellising. It is fast growing and can even bloom within 6-8 weeks of planting from seed. It likes full sun to part shade (too much shade may reduce flowering) and prefers a rich moist soil. It can be grown as an annual in all zones and a perennial in zones 9b 10, & 11. You can pinch the tips of vines to keep it more compact if desired. It is a larval host of the beautiful Long-tailed Skipper and Dorantes Longtail butterflies.
For Planting the Seeds: Plant the seeds 1/4 inch deep in pre-moistened potting mix in a small pot or seedling tray. Keep moist in partial shade until germination, when they can be moved to full sun exposure. Seeds can take 10 days to germinate so be patient. Nicking & soaking the seeds for 24 hours before planting can speed up & increase germination success. Germination rate should be very high (>75-85% or better).
Taste and Preparation
The flowers are edible, delicious and high in antioxidants. Studies have shown that the white flower variety is therapeutically more active than the blue variety and is beneficial for the brain with memory and intelligence enhancing properties. I find the white flower tastes slightly sweeter than the blue variety. They add a beautiful touch to salads or garnishing on a cake etc. The flowers, fresh or dried, are also nice prepared as a tea.
