Introducing Wonder Pax small square gel hot/cold compress packs, where electricity and being tied down with a heating element are a thing of the past! These handy and exclusively portable gel packs are perfect for small area muscle aches and discomforts like hands, feet, elbows or knees. Or, just to warm your hands up when you need. These are small enough you can wrap them in an ace bandage and attach to the area you seek relief and simply go about your day.
These handy little things are not like other warmers. They use a little metal disc inside that you snap to activate the gel for an instant heat of 130*F(54*C). The heat can last for as much as an hour (per Wonder Pax website. Actual length of time may vary) These can also be used as cool compresses. Simply toss in the REFRIDGERATOR for an hour or two. (DO NOT PUT IN FREEZER!!! It will damage the gel)
To use these bad boys, simple grab that little metal disc and press it until it snaps or the gel begins to activate and turn to crystals. Some discs only take a small amount of pressure to start the heat activation. So, don't worry if it doesn't actually snap before the gel starts to crystalize. At first, the crystals will cause the pack to be solid and hard. Use your hands to work the crystals around to make the pack easier to conform to your body. Then, wrap it in a towel or cloth and set it where you seek relief.
Once the pack is cold, it must go through a reset process before you can use it again. The reset process is as easy as cooking pasta, maybe even easier! Simply bring a pot of water to a boil and drop that sucker in. Don't walk away though! Keep an eye on the pack and watch the magic as the crystals melt back in to gel form! Be sure to leave the pack in the water until all crystals are dissolved. If you take it out before all the crystals have dissolved, it will harden again and you'll have to start over. Not quite sure it's all dissolved? Leave it in that water for a few more minutes. Or, hold the pack up to a light and look for any cloudy floaties. Those floaties are undissolved crystals. Use cooking tongs that have silicone/soft grabber hands to handle the packs and avoid puncturing a whole in the best warmer ever! The process usually takes about 10 minutes from dip to melted with these small packs.
NOTE- Not every pack will last the same amount of time, every time. Wonder Pax states on their website that these packs go through a "break in process" like wearing in a new pair of shoes. The more you use the pack, the longer it tends to stay hot. Whether the pack is wrapped in a towel or exposed to room temperature will also depend on how long the heat will last.
Caution- Do not use these within the first few days of a new injury, specifically while swelling/inflammation is present. The heat from the packs can increase blood flow and cause the swelling to worsen. DO NOT use on children under 5 years old! Due to high heat, DO NOT use on bare skin.
