Himalaya Herbal Glucocare Ingredients

GlucoCare is proprietary herbal formula comprised of well-known and researched Ayurvedic herbs. This formula as a dietary supplement supports normal blood sugar levels. GlucoCare contains Bitter Melon which has the nutrient polypeptide-p that exhibits insulin-like activity. GlucoCare contains Gymnemic acid from Gymnema that blocks the taste of sugar. GlucoCare contains Indian Kino Tree which has flavonoids that inhibit glucose absorption in the intestines.

Guggul

Guggulipids are a remedy that has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. In India they are now considered a lipid- lowering drug. Another traditional use for guggulipids is as an anti-inflammatory agent. Guggul extracts work most effectively on types of high cholesterol where there is too much of the harmful cholesterol, called LDL, VLDL and triglycerides. They do not raise levels of beneficial, HDL, cholesterol. The mechanism by which guggulipids alter cholesterol is four-fold. Firstly they block the production of cholesterol by the liver.
Secondly they increase the excretion of cholesterol through the bile. Thirdly they increase the uptake of LDL by the liver. Lastly they increase thyroid activity, thus stimulating the metabolism of LDL cholesterol. Guggul extracts have been shown to decrease the severity and formation of cholesterol plaques. Guggulipid also protects the body by neutralizing harmful free radicals.

Guggulipids supplements are found as encapsulated herb or liquid extracts. Guggulipids products should be standardized as an assurance of the amount of guggulsterones they contain. Guggulipids can be found in combination products for cholesterol control.

Guggulipids should not be used in pregnancy, during lactation or by individuals with thyroid disease, active bleeding, or blood disorders. Guggulipids should not be used with blood thinning medications, NSAIDs or aspirin and should be discontinued 2 weeks prior to surgery or dental work. Guggulipids can alter the metabolism of drugs that are metabolized in the liver such as anti-hypertensives, beta-blockers and calcium channel blockers. Guggulipid consumption can cause gastrointestinal upset in sensitive individuals.

Gymnema

Gymnema sylvestre is a slow growing perennial climber out of central India. It is Ayurvedic herb used for centuries to promote blood sugar regulation and now a well-known and commonly used natural remedy for individuals with both type I and type II Diabetes.

It is believed that Gymnema exerts its sugar regulating effects by blocking the absorption of glucose within the intestine, preventing it from getting into the blood stream. Gymnemic acids, which are considered the active component of Gymnema, compete with sugar at receptor sites, decreasing the amount of glucose that can bind and that is ultimately absorbed. This also serves to prevent the post meal spike in blood sugar that can be damaging for pre-diabetics and diabetics alike.

Type I Diabetes, once referred to as Juvenile Onset Diabetes, has a different pathophysiology and is often much more difficult to treat by natural means. Studies have found that gymnema can reduce the amount of insulin required by these individuals, as well as significantly lower serum lipids levels (often found to be high in Type I sufferers). It is possible that the herb may even act to repair the beta cells of the pancreas to a certain degree, causing these cells to begin producing their own insulin.

Gymnema is also included in many weight loss combinations, as it is said to decrease the sweet taste of sugar, and therefore decrease cravings for sweet (and maybe not so easy on the waistline) treats. It does this by blocking the glucose receptors on the tongue, similar to its effects in the gut. It has also been used for allergies, anemia, indigestion and hyperactivity, although much less widely studied for these purposes.

Gymnema can be found in liquid (tincture) form, capsule, or often combined with other herbs and anti-oxidants specific to blood sugar regulation and prevention of systemic effects of dysglycemia. Gymnema is recommended at a dose of 400-800 mg/day.

There are no known safety or toxicity issues with the use of gymnema. It may be wise to closely monitor your blood sugar levels when initiating treatment with gymnema, especially if already taking pharmaceutical medication aimed at lowering blood sugar, to avoid a state of hypoglycemia.

Bitter Melon

The fruit of the bitter melon is a common food item in tropical regions. Medicinally it has traditional usages for infections and diabetes. In the Western world, bitter melon is known as a hypoglycemic agent. This means that it has the ability to lower blood sugar, thus reducing the damaging effect of excess sugar that characterizes the condition diabetes.

This effect is thought to occur due to a combination of chemicals in bitter melon, rather than one constituent. In other studies, two proteins, contained in the fruit of biter melon, have been shown to have antiviral activity against HIV. However, this has yet to be proven in clinical trials.

Bitter melon juice is difficult to find in North America. Most supplements are made from encapsulated dried fruit. Be sure to purchase a product that has been standardized to the triterpene content. This is an assurance that the product contains bitter melon and has some active properties.

Bitter melon juice may cause miscarriage and should not be used in pregnancy. Because bitter melon has hypoglycemic effects those taking insulin or oral hypoglycemic drugs should use bitter melon under the care of a health professional.
