Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross veröffentlichen den Soundtrack zur filmischen Hollywood-Bearbeitung des Stieg Larsson Bestseller-Romans "Verblendung".
Es ist das bereits das zweite Mal, dass Reznor und Ross mit Kult-Regisseur David Fincher zusammenarbeiten. Zuletzt kollaborierte das Duo für David Finchers letzten Kassenschlager "The Social Network", der Anfang 2011 mit dem Oscar für die beste Filmmusik ausgezeichnet wurde. Reznor erklärt: "In den letzten 14 Monaten haben Atticus und ich hart an David Finchers "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" gearbeitet. Wir haben gelacht und geweint und beinahe den Verstand verloren und heraus kam die schönste und verstörendste Musik die wir je gemacht haben". Ein ausuferndes 3-Stunden-Opus.

Eines sage ich Ihnen: Wenn Sie diese knapp drei Stunden Musik in einem Durchlauf hören, so wie ich in den vergangenen Tagen mehrmals, dann besteht die Gefahr, dass Sie ganz schön schräg draufkommen. Probieren Sie das ruhig mal aus, nehmen Sie sich die Zeit. Sie werden erleben, dass Sie ständig frösteln, obwohl es nicht kalt ist. Sie werden glauben, dass alle Menschen, denen Sie auf der Straße begegnen, Teil eines finsteren Komplotts sind, das zum Ziel hat, Sie als Mündel des Staates dauerhaft in die Psychiatrie zu verfrachten. Sie sehen alles nur noch in blaugrau. Und dann erst diese bleierne Melancholie... Wie bitte? So geht es Ihnen auch ohne Soundtrack? Okay, gehen Sie zum Arzt. Aber nehmen Sie einen iPod mit dieser Platte drauf mit, das könnte im Wartezimmer ganz tröstlich sein. Trent Reznor, einst selbstquälerischer Kopf des Industrial-Rock-Projekts Nine Inch Nails, ist als Soundtrack-Komponist bei seiner wahren Bestimmung angekommen. Schon sein mit einem Oscar ausgezeichneter Score zu David Finchers Facebook-Film "The Social Network" schürfte beklemmend tief in den Seelen der Nerds, die der Film porträtierte. "Ich will wissen, wie Intelligenz klingt", hatte Fincher damals zu Reznor gesagt, der zuvor noch nie Musik für einen Film geschrieben hatte. Für "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" (deutsch: "Verblendung", seit vergangenem Donnerstag im Kino) hatten Reznor und sein langjähriger Programmierer Atticus Ross nun 14 Monate Zeit - kein Wunder, dass der Soundtrack * Ende länger als der eigentliche Film geriet. Wie muss es sich im Inneren des verstörten Cyberpunks Lisbeth Salander anfühlen? Diesen ganz besonders tiefen Abgrund mit Tönen zu füllen, war dieses Mal Finchers Vorgabe. Und wer, wenn nicht Reznor, der einst Songzeilen wie "I hurt myself today/ To see if I still feel" schrieb, wäre geeigneter, diesen Auftrag mit erschreckender Konsequenz zu erfüllen. Zu Beginn rockt es mit einer Coverversion von Led Zeppelins "Immigrant Song" (mit Karen O) noch ordentlich los. "We come from the land of ice and snow", heulen darin die Wikinger triumphierend. Und danach führen Reznor und Ross vor, wie man das im ewigen Winter erstarrte Schweden, dass Fincher im Film entwirft, suggestiv mit Folterkammermusik untermalt. "Eraserhead-Drones" habe er dafür benutzt, sagt Reznor, als Hommage an David Lynch. Es dröhnt, dass die Bassboxen vor Angst schlottern, es klimpert ein Piano verloren im weiten Raum, Xylophone und Glocken huschen irrlichternd durch eine karstige Landschaft aus schwarzem Eis, die sich ächzend und träge andauernd neu formiert. "Is your heart strong enough", fragt Reznor * Ende mit seiner neuen Band How To Destroy Angels in einer weiteren Coverversion (von Bryan Ferry). Wahrlich: Man braucht starke Nerven, um diesen Wahnsinn zu ertragen. Aber wenn, wird man mit einem grandiosen Trip belohnt, der die Grenzen von neuer klassischer Musik, Postrock und orchestralem Filmsoundtrack bis zur Schmerzgrenze erweitert.
