1. Moisture-proof sealing:
Reason: Most printing consumables (especially PLA, PETG, nylon, etc.) are hygroscopic and will absorb moisture when exposed to air.
Problem: Moist consumables will produce bubbles, drawing, poor interlayer adhesion, rough surface, and even blocked nozzles during printing, which seriously affects the printing quality and success rate.
Solution: Unused consumables must be stored in sealed containers (such as plastic storage boxes with sealing rings, special sealing bags, vacuum bags) after opening. It is strongly recommended to place a sufficient amount of desiccant (silica gel, regenerated desiccant, etc.) in the container and replace or regenerate it regularly to absorb the residual moisture in the container. Make sure the container is tightly sealed.
2. Light protection and temperature stability:
Reason: Ultraviolet rays (sunlight) will accelerate the aging and degradation of plastic materials. Severe temperature fluctuations may also cause slight changes in the physical properties of the material (such as brittleness) or cause deformation of the coil.
Problem: Long-term exposure to sunlight will cause the color of the filament to fade and become brittle, reducing its mechanical properties and printing effect. Drastic temperature changes may increase the stress of the filament roll, causing it to be too tight or too loose, affecting the smoothness of feeding.
Solution: Store the filament in a dark place (such as a cabinet, drawer, or opaque storage box). Avoid direct sunlight and long-term exposure to strong fluorescent lights. At the same time, try to choose an environment with relatively stable temperature to store it, and avoid being close to heat sources such as heaters, air conditioning vents, ovens, or cold and humid corners. Room temperature (15°C - 25°C) is usually suitable.
3. Physical protection and dust prevention:
Reason: The filament roll needs to be kept clean, untangled, undeformed, and free of external pressure. Dust and debris may be brought into the printer nozzle and cause blockage.
Problem: The compression and deformation of the filament roll (such as being pressed by a heavy object) will affect its smooth rotation, resulting in poor feeding or even jamming. Loosely placed wires are prone to tangling and knotting. Exposed filaments are prone to attracting dust.
Solution: Store the filament rolls horizontally or vertically (using special brackets or hooks) to avoid deformation caused by stacking. If stacking, make sure it is stable and evenly stressed. The storage container itself can also effectively prevent dust. Avoid placing filaments randomly on the workbench, which is easy to be contaminated with oil or dust. Keep the storage area relatively clean.
