UBQ Industries - Active Elements™ Concrete Acid Stain
Gorgeous earth tones for indoor and outdoor concrete
WARNING! THIS IS NOT A CONCRETE PAINT. THIS IS ACID STAIN AND IT WORKS DIFFERENTLY THAN PAINT!
Active Elements™ acid stain penetrates the concrete surface and chemically reacts with the concrete to form a translucent, variegated and sometimes-marbleized effect. The art of concrete acid stain is in the variegated look.
When changing the color of a concrete project, sealing with one of our appropriate sealers can change the outcome of the projects look (usually increasing the depth of color and protecting the surface from wear).
For small projects or even just testing for color affects, try our Concrete Acid Stain Sample Kit. Our kit includes 10 – 16oz bottles of each one of our concrete stain colors.
Uses:
Concrete Patio Commercial Ornamentals
Concrete Block Driveway Residential Landscape Block
Brick Walkway Retail Rocks
Curbing Pool Deck Industrial Boulders
Retaining block Garage Floor Parking Garages Statuary
Retaining Walls Vertical Concrete Faux Finishes
• The texture of concrete, age and dilution ratio affect final color appearance.
Coverage variations:
• Heavily broom finished/rough concrete = 100 square feet per gallon
• Light Broom finished concrete = 150-200 square feet per gallon
• Smooth troweled concrete (usually interior floors) = 200-300 square feet per gallon
(**Specific application method used can affect amount of square foot coverage **)
• Indoor and outdoor use of acid stain
• When needing a lighter color use Active Elements Dilute as a reducing agent.
Points of Interest regarding concrete stain:
• The translucence of concrete acid stain also allows the many unique characteristics of the slab to show through. Every project is a unique piece of art.
• Sealers and concrete condition will dramatically affect the final outcome of concrete acid stains. Conduct a test on your slab prior to application.
• The samples displayed are a representation only and do not guarantee the final color to be an exact match.
Combing Shipping Options:
If you would like to order more than one stain or a combination of colors, please contact us and we can set up a new invoice with one shipping price.
We can also private label your own decorative concrete supply line?
**This product may only be used on fully cured concrete. Allow a minimum of 28-45 days of cure time after the concrete placement to allow ample time for the concrete to completely hydrate. **
Surface Preparation
Concrete must be clean and free of all dirt and contaminants. Concrete floors must be open and porous prior to applying Active Elements - Concrete Acid Stain. Oil and grease must be removed prior to stain application using Active Elements - Degrease. Paints and sealers must be removed prior to stain application using Active Elements – Paint Strip.
• Interior floors - Required minimum preparation is scrubbing using a floor machine (buffer) with a black pad, grit brush or sanding screen.
• Exterior surfaces (broom finished) - Required minimum preparation is pressure washing.
Safety
Always use appropriate safety equipment including but not limited to, goggles, face shield, rubber gloves, chemical resistant clothing or apron, and chemical respirator.
Dilution
When a lighter color is desired, use Active Elements – Dilute as a reducing agent.
Mix at a ratio of 1 Part Active Elements - Concrete Acid Stain to 1 Part Active Elements – Dilute
Application
Equipment must be constructed of plastic or other non-corrosive material. The stain can be applied using a plastic pump sprayer, brush, rag, or sponge. Wash equipment thoroughly after use with water.
Drying / Reaction Time
Allow a minimum of 4 hours drying/reaction time.
Neutralization
After the full stain reaction has occurred neutralize the concrete by scrubbing the surface with Active Elements - Neutralize (8oz in 5 gallons water). A stiff bristle brush or broom should be used to scrub in the neutralizing solution. Use a wet vacuum to collect residue and waste water. Dispose in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Residue Removal
• Interior floors - Required minimum residue removal method is scrubbing using a floor machine (buffer) with a nylon bristle brush or white pad. Use a wet vacuum to collect residue and waste water. Dispose in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Exterior surfaces - Required minimum residue removal method is pressure washing. Use a wet vacuum to collect residue and waste water. Dispose in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Caution - Residue runoff can stain and discolor unprotected concrete, buildings and landscape features. It may also cross contaminate previously applied colors.
Sealer Options - Exterior Surfaces
A. Active Elements – TrueSeal 400S is a solvent borne exterior sealer that contains UV absorbers for long lasting color protection. It will give a tough glossy surface and a deep rich color.
B. Active Elements –Water Repel 101 is a moisture repelling sealer for interior and exterior surfaces. It is a reactive siloxane/silane no-build treatment that when cured gives a no-gloss finish and has zero thickness build.
Sealer Options - Interior Floors
A. Active Elements – London Wax is a blend of natural renewable resource waxes blended with a food grade mineral oil. It gives a beautiful low luster rich color that is easy to maintain.
B. Active Elements – Advance Seal is a water based acrylic technology floor sealer. Perfect when a deeper richer color is desired along with a hard shell protective sealer. It gives a beautiful medium sheen appearance.
C. Active Elements –Advance Finish is a water based acrylic floor finish that can be used on top of Advance Seal as a sacrificial top coat for high traffic floors. It is an easy to apply glossy top coat that has a 1 hour return to service, making it ideal for retail, office and commercial environments.
D. Active Elements –Water Repel 101 is a moisture repelling sealer for interior and exterior surfaces. It is a reactive siloxane/silane no-build treatment that when cured gives a no-gloss finish and has zero thickness build.
Special Considerations
• Color Change
The use of Pacific Dogwood and Sanibel on concrete which has no vapor barrier underneath (typically exterior concrete slabs) have the risk of partially or completely turning black when excessive amounts of moisture migrate from underneath the slab to the top surface.
• Color Variances
Results may vary from color chart due to differing compositions of concrete. The texture of the concrete, age and dilution ratio affect final color appearance. Many slab characteristics show through the stain.
