Tunisia is located in the Southern Mediterranean just off the coast of the Italian island of Sicily, at the end of the "boot" of Italy. ✔️ Tunisian olive wood is one of the most beautiful hard woods found anywhere in the world. Tunisian olive wood is recognized around the world by the distinctive honey and brown pigments found in its burl like grains. The antique olive trees used for Orchard Hardwoods products have been hardened by decades of Mediterranean heat, making the wood extremely strong and durable. ✔️Olive wood has an amazing aroma when carved, perhaps being one of the reasons it was used for posts and doors in the Temple of Jerusalem. ✔️ Olive wood grows slowly but is sustainable and not listed as a threatened species. ✔️ Reclaimed olive wood is a by-product of the agricultural industry, as the tree which has been pruned and harvested over the years for its prized oil eventually stops producing fruit. The olive tree trunk provides another use with its beautifully grained wood. ✔️ Each piece is artistically fashioned by hand from a single block of the highest quality Tunisian olive wood, then carefully sanded, oiled with olive oil and left unfinished. Work is done in a small family factory using traditional methods passed down through generations. Many of our products include a live bark edge for a raw, organic appearance. ✔️ The exact dimensions, grain and shape will vary from photos because of the natural shape of the individual olive tree from which each piece is uniquely formed.
