Prepare Seeds: Remove the seeds from the excess pulpy fruit matter surrounding them and soak them in a container of water for three days to allow the pulp to deteriorate and to simulate the rainy season of their natural habitat. Clean Seeds: Wash the seeds in warm water and rub them between your fingers until no pulp remains on the surface. Dry them on a paper towel. Prepare Soil: Fill a plant pot with equal parts of sand and dampened peat moss. Bury the seeds under 1/2 inch of soil and place them 6 inches apart or in separate growing containers. Watering: Water the freshly planted seeds until the water drains from the bottom of the container, keeping the seeds moist until they sprout. Lighting: Place the containers in a warm, sunny window or garden spot for about six weeks where they will stay at 75°F or more until they germinate. Transplanting: When the seedlings reach 6 inches tall, transplant them to a permanent location. Choose a spot with full sun to partial shade and set them into the ground at the same depth they were in the container. Use sandy soil and water the seedlings for several weeks after planting with 1 cup of water per plant each week. Care: Be careful of the taproot when transplanting. The Bismarck palm does not need fertilizer if grown in the ground.
