Inline Sediment Water Filter

A Sediment Water Filter removes the physical debris and impurities from your water. The sediment filter has tiny holes through which water is able to pass, however the unwanted particles are not. As these particles come in different sizes, so do the filters. The filter sizes are measured in microns, the smaller the micron measurement, the smaller the holes in the filter, allowing to hold back the smallest of particles. Generally, for water that is more visibly polluted, containing larger particles, a sediment filter of a larger size (such as 20 or 50 microns) is recommended in the first stage of installation to prevent the clogging of the next stage(s) of filters.

This sediment filter is often the first filter installed in the Reverse Osmosis circuit and acts as a net as it catches unwanted particles, including sand, dirt, silt, rust, and other fine particles. Sediment filters are made of fine melted polypropylene, which is then blown and spun into a cylinder-like form. Polypropylene is a substance that is resistant to chemical solvents, bases, and acids. Removal of these particles allows filters, such as Carbon Block or GAC (Granular Activated Carbon) filters, to perform better and for longer periods of time.

These particles and pollutants come from water sources, old and dirty pipes, as well as contaminants that are used to treat the water.

Inline Granular Carbon Water Filter

Granular Activated Carbon Filters (GAC) are well-known for efficiently reducing chemical compounds, foul tastes, and smells from water. These filters remove and reduce organic and industrial chemicals that seep into water sources and through plumbing. All Ronaqua GAC filters are made with high quality coconut shell carbon crushed into positively charged granules. The positively charged granules in the filter remove negative ions from the water, such as: chlorine, fluorides, ozone, and dissolved organic solutes, effectively providing good general-purpose drinking water.

These filters are constructed to allow water to enter in one end and pass through the entire length of the carbon bed before exiting through the other end of the cartridge, while an internal expansion pad minimizes channeling or bypass before the water exits the cartridge.

What is Granular Activated Carbon?

Granular Activated Carbon is created from organic raw materials that are high in carbon. Such materials include wood, coal, and lignite - a type of brown coal made from naturally compressed peat. Activated Carbon effectively absorbs pollutants and particulars because it is highly porous and provides a large surface area that allows it to continue to take in particles found in the water.

Chlorine removal is what carbon is best at, and nothing else equals carbon's ability to remove chlorine.

What is Activated Carbon Block?

Besides the physical absorption that the Activated Carbon Block filter can provide, it also filters the water via a chemical process. The Activated Carbon Block filter is positively charged, thus it is able to attract negatively charged particles such as: chlorine, benzine, and other volatile organic compounds, and prevent them from flowing out into your glass. Carbon is well known for its unique absorbing ability; just a pound of carbon is able to provide up 125 acres of filtering surface area.
