Tennis Menace is proud to offer the Retenser & Retenser Pro for sale in the U.S.A.
Almost 40 years ago, MacGregor, an American sporting goods company, known for golf, introduced the Bergelin Longstring Tennis Racquet to the U.S. market. The brainchild of a German aeronautics engineer Herwig Fischer & endorsed by Lennart Bergelin, one-time Davis Cup winner and former coach of Bjorn Borg, the racquet promised to revolutionize tennis. It allowed players to change their tension on the fly, simply by adjusting a bolt in the butt cap. In a nutshell, it worked. However there was one small problem that led to its demise like a lead balloon, & that was its weight.
At that time tennis racquets were beginning to become significantly lighter than their predecessors, the Begelin was simply too heavy to compete with other more maneuverable racquets, at 13 ounces. Almost every tennis retailer gave the Bergelin a shot, as the idea of adjustable tension was quite novel. Alas, it died a rather quick death, disappearing almost as quickly as it was introduced.
Fast forward to 2022 & newcomer to the tennis industry, Elevating Sports BV. of Holland has introduced a patented product aptly called Retenser, that can be fitted to almost any modern open throated tennis racquet, & which allows the racquet's effective tension to be adjusted, again on the fly. Retenser, made entirely of durable light weight, plastic, takes the place of the racquet's throat piece, and adjusts the physical length of the center 4 or 6 main strings, which has an instantly noticeable effect on the way the racquet performs. With an adjustment range of +- 4 1/2 lbs for this the Standard Retenser. Retenser can vary the Power, & available Control & Spin. The ability to play much longer with the feeling of a freshly strung racket & being able to vary your racquets performance depending upon your opponent are major advantages provided by Retenser. It adds just 5-7 grams of weight, but close to the center of mass, thus the perceived weight, known as Swing Weight is minimally influenced.
Retenser is installed while the racquet is being strung. It does not suffer from any significant wear, and is thus semi-permanent, unless you decide to remove it. It can be moved to another compatible racquet at will during re-stringing. Adjustment is easy & done with a supplied key. (Photo below/right).

Retenser is available in models for racquets that are either bottom or top centered, in both standard & deluxe configurations, from its U.S. Importer: Tennis Menace / Manufacture: Retenser. Both have a web site with further infomation. An installation video is available as well.

We are Tennis Menace. Look us up!

We are the U.S. distributor of Retenser

Replacing the throat piece on most Tennis Racquets, with models

to fit both TOP Centered racquets & BOTTOM centered racquets, Retenser allows players to adjust the effective tension of their tennis racquet at will, even between points. This adjustment will allow you to vary the power & control that your racquet provides.

The standard Retenser provides a +- 4 1/2 pound adjustment to the center 4 or 6 main strings, depends upon the configuration of your racquet.

If your racquet has 8 holes in the throat, order Retenser #8. This will provide tension adjustment to the center 4 main strings.

If your racquet has 6 holes in the throat order Retenser #6. This will provide adjustment to the center 6 main strings.

Make sure to specify which Retenser Model your require by providing that info as a comment with your payment, or you can Contact Us after you pay to select which type we should ship you.

Retenser is installed while the racquet is being strung. Racquets equipped with Retensers can be restrung over and over. Retenser can also be transferred from racquet to racquet as long as it has the same configuration, "Bottom or Top" Centered!

You are buying the "Standard Retenser" with a SINGLE tension adjustment range of +- 4 1/2 lbs on the center main strings.

Retenser is light weight,  adds minimal weight to the racquet, just a few grams & the Balance & Swing Weight is hardly affected.

Because the Retenser must be installed into your racquet during the stringing, it cannot be returned to us for a refund.

Installation instructions are included, however we suggest contacting Tennis Menace prior to installation for additional tips on getting the most from Retenser.

Retenser does come with a one year WARRANTY against defects in materials & workmanship. Spare parts are also available. Contact Tennis Menace for Parts or Service.

See our other "Buy it Now" for Retenser Pro, which adds 2 additional tension adjustment ranges +- 2 1/4 lbs & +- 7 lbs.
