Why Optimal Solutions® Hair Growth?

Many people may notice a change in the quality and quantity of their hair as they age. According to research, more than 50 percent of women may experience noticeable hair loss by age 50 caused mostly by age-related hair thinning. Nature’s Bounty® Optimal Solutions® Hair Growth features an Advanced Hair Complex, a unique combination of key nutrients that provides nutritional and structural support for the growth of thicker, fuller hair.*

Advanced Hair Complex

The Advanced Hair Complex works by delivering these key nutrients – Biotin, Silicon, and Arginine – to the hair follicles and encourages the growth of thicker, fuller hair*

What is Biotin?

Biotin, a water-soluble vitamin, and part of the B-Vitamin family is a co-enzyme for mitochondrial carbohydrates in hair follicles and is involved in the synthesis of keratin, a fibrous protein that forms the main structural component of hair.* Water-soluble vitamins are not readily stored in the body; therefore, they should be consumed every day. Biotin is found in foods such as oatmeal, vegetables, legumes, and soy.

What is Silicon?

Silicon is the third most abundant trace mineral in the human body and accumulates in the epicuticle, which is the outermost layer of hair. Silicon is involved in the synthesis of sulfur-rich proteins like keratin. These proteins provide structural support for hair.• While you can get this nutrient from foods such as grain, fish, meat, and eggs, Silicon may also be taken as a supplement to support and nourish healthy hair.*

What is Arginine?

Arginine is also involved in keratin production.• It is one of the many amino acids that make up this structural protein in hair. Arginine is also a precursor to nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is an important compound in the body that helps increase circulation and nutrient delivery, including to the hair follicles in the scalp. The body naturally produces Arginine; however, it is also found in most protein-rich foods, including fish, red meat, poultry, soy, whole grains, beans, and dairy products.

What does the research say?

According to a 2021 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled (RDBPC) study published in the Journal of Clinical & Experimental Dermatology Research, investigators evaluated Advanced Hair Complex (under the name Lustriva®) for its ability to improve hair quality.* Ninety healthy women with hair thinning and an average age of 46 years old, supplemented with Advanced Hair Complex (under the name Lustriva®) high-dose (10 mg Biotin), low-dose (3 mg Biotin) or placebo for 12 weeks. At baseline, participant's self-reported hair thinning was confirmed by the principal investigator using the Savin/Ludwig scale, a well-accepted and widely used measure of female hair loss and thinning. To measure changes in hair quality and growth, investigators used a high-resolution camera coupled with computerized methods to objectively determine the status of the hair over time. At the end of the 12-week study duration, women in the high dose group experienced a significant increase in hair thickness compared to both the placebo and low-dose groups by comparing the percentage of terminal to vellus hair.*

The Scalp and Types of Hair

As the epicenter of hair growth, the scalp plays a pivotal role in hair health. Hair follicles, found under the scalp, are what produce and retain hair strands. There are two main types of adult hair, which are categorized as either terminal or vellus. Terminal hair is the longer, thicker, normal scalp hair. Vellus hair is lightly pigmented, shorter, thinner and is often referred to as “peach fuzz.” In this case, terminal hair is desirable as we want to ensure we have a greater percentage of thicker and longer strands.

Hair Thinning and Age

In women, it’s common to notice hair start to thin as they get older. The first noticeable sign is usually overall thinning or a widening part. That’s because starting around age 40, terminal hair growth can slow as some follicles spend more time “resting,” so when terminal hair sheds it takes longer to be replaced. Eventually, some hair follicles can stop growing terminal hair altogether, switching to vellus-type hair growth and causing visible hair thinning. This transformation is referred to as follicle miniaturization, which results from a progressive decrease in the ratio of terminal to vellus hair. In mild to moderate cases, it may be possible to stabilize the process of hair follicle miniaturization. In addition, hair shedding can occur when the follicles become clogged. In general, women shed 50 to 100 single strands of hair per day. While this hair shedding is a part of the natural hair cycle, noticeable hair thinning as you age is not. In fact, researchers typically measure the width of your part as an indicator of hair thinning when studying hair thinning and growth. Once a change in texture, thickness, and the amount of scalp revealed in the part becomes noticeable, it usually means the terminal hair is miniaturizing. This decrease in the ratio of terminal to vellus hair is a key indicator of hair thinning.

DIRECTIONS: For adults, take one (1) capsule daily, preferably with a meal. Optimal results seen with continued use.

Other Ingredients: Vegetable Cellulose, Vegetable Stearic Acid, Vegetable Magnesium Stearate, Silica.

WARNING: If you are pregnant, nursing, taking any medications, have any medical condition, or are planning to undergo any clinical lab testing, consult your doctor before use. Some supplements may interact with certain medications and/or interfere with certain lab tests. It is advisable to consult your doctor before using Biotin doses above 2,500 mcg per day. If any adverse reactions occur, stop use and consult your doctor. Keep out of reach of children. Store at room temperature. Do not use if seal under cap is broken or missing.
