This action is performed to avoid obstructing or distracting another golfer during their putt. The marker is typically placed just behind the ball before lifting it. This allows the ball to be temporarily removed without altering its position on the green, allowing other players to putt smoothly without interference. Once the ball is marked, it can be replaced precisely in front of the marker on its original spot when it's time for the next stroke. This practice ensures fairness and avoids any disruption to the game when golfers are on the green.
