Native Texas Bluebonnet is a hardy winter annual native to Texas. Adopted as the "State Flower of Texas", this is the most commonly seen variety along roadsides and in uncultivated pastures throughout the state. Bluebonnet flowers are densely arranged on a spike with a characteristic ice white terminal tip. Bluebonnets cannot tolerate poorly drained, clay based soils. Seed planted in poorly drained soils will germinate, but plants will never fully develop. Seedlings will become either stunted or turn yellow and soon die. Prefers a sloped area in light to gravelly, well drained, soil with a pH level between 6 to 7. Bluebonnets require 8 hours of direct sun. Suggested Use: Raised flower beds, half wooden barrels, hanging baskets, mixtures, hillsides, roadsides and meadows. Miscellaneous: Easy to grow from seed providing you do not have an overabundance of rainfall and plant in well-drained soils. Fun Fact: After 19 years of bluebonnet collection and development, Texas is blessed with multiple colors of bluebonnets, including: Natural blue -- regular bluebonnet Intense blue – ‘Lady Bird Johnson Royal Blue’ (Texas Superstar) Pink – ‘Abbot Pink’ Maroon – ‘Alamo Fire’ aka ‘Aggie Maroon’ Light purple – ‘Grant’s Maroon’ Dark purple – ‘Purple Heart’ Bright red – ‘Henry’s Red’ All of these colors are legally the state flower. David's Garden Seeds sells the Blue Bluebonnet, the Maroon Bluebonnet, the Purple Heart Bluebonnet and the Lady Bird Royal Blue Bluebonnet. These are planted in Texas in October for Spring Growth. Plant in Fall for Spring growth. Wildflowers are exactly what the name implies, "wild" which means you plant them in the fall for spring growth. Keep in mind that insects and other small animals like them as well. Spring means when your ground has thawed and the soil temperature (not the ambient temperature) is at least 65 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Wildflowers are not made to be started inside and transplanted. Scratching the seeds will improve germination. You can do this by putting the seeds in a container with sandpaper and shaking for a minute. Some say not to do this. If not, it could be two years before you harvest any. Texas Bluebonnet is an annual plant. It germinates, grows, flowers, and sets seed over the course of one year. If conditions are favorable in your garden, the plants will set seed and reproduce. It can take some time to establish a large stand of Texas Bluebonnets, as the seeds can be finicky with their specific requirements. Our Non-GMO seeds are sustainable. These are also open pollinated meaning they will reproduce themselves. While all heirlooms are open pollinated not all open pollinated seeds are heirlooms. Freshly Packed: These bluebonnet seeds are packed for the current growing season and will provide high germination rates next year as well. Do not confuse with Lupines.

Carriers

We primarily use USPS and UPS for U.S. deliveries. Items shipped from international warehouses may be handled by partner carriers depending on the country of origin.

Import Duties & Taxes

All import duties and taxes for goods imported into the United States are included in the product price. There are no hidden fees or additional charges at checkout.

Tracking & Notifications

Every order is fully trackable. You will receive a tracking number via email once your order ships. If your order ships in multiple packages, each package will have its own tracking number. If you don’t receive a shipping confirmation immediately, your order is still being processed and will arrive within the estimated timeframe shown at checkout.

Order Changes & Cancellations

If you need to modify or cancel an order, please contact our customer support team as soon as possible. Orders can only be canceled before they ship. Once shipped, cancellations are not possible, but you may request a return after the item is delivered.

Order Cancellation Policy

How to Return an Item

Shipping Cost for Returns

Please contact us before returning any item.

We may provide a return shipping label for your return. If the return is due to our error, such as receiving the wrong item, a damaged item, or a defective product, we will cover the return shipping cost.

If the return is due to the customer’s reason, such as ordering the wrong item, changing your mind, or no longer needing the item, the original shipping fee and the return label fee will be deducted from your refund amount.

If a return is sent back without prior contact or without using our provided label, we cannot be held responsible for any return shipping costs or delivery issues.

For items valued over $75, we recommend using a trackable shipping service or purchasing shipping insurance.
We cannot guarantee that we will receive your returned item if shipped independently.

Refund Processing

Once your return is received and inspected:

  • In-store returns are refunded to the original form of payment or issued as a gift card.
  • Mail-in returns using our prepaid label are refunded to the original payment method within 3–5 business days after we receive your return.

Please allow:

  • 5–7 business days for the return to reach our Returns Center.
  • An additional 3–10 business days for your bank to post the refund to your account.
