The Columbus Electric 24 VAC Heat/Cool Reed Switch Thermostat is a universal control for use in most low voltage gas, oil, or electric systems. It has an adjustable heat anticipator to meet various applications and does not require precise leveling since the design utilizes a vibration/dust proof reed switch operated by a magnet on coiled bimetal.
This thermostat is functional in either one of two positions. For gas or oil heat applications, the pointer on the printed circuit board is to be put in position "G/O," allowing the fan to cycle in the cool mode only. For electric heat applications, the pointer is to be put in position "E," cycling the fan in both the cooling and heating modes.
This unit has a built-in thermometer with a standard temperature range of 50-90°F.

INSTALLATION
- Determine the location where the thermostat is to be mounted. It should be installed about 54" above floor level where there is good air circulation. Avoid heat sources such as lamps, direct sunlight, fireplaces, or walls containing air conditioning and heating ducts. Do not install where anything can obstruct free airflow such as drapes or doors.
- Disconnect the power supply to the air conditioning and heating system.
- Determine the type of heating system (Gas and Oil or Electric) and set the pointer located on the back of the unit on the printed circuit board to the proper location (see diagram 2). For gas or oil heat applications, the pointer is to be put in position "G/O," allowing the fan to cycle in the cool mode only. For electric heat applications, the pointer is to be put in position "E," cycling the fan in both the cooling and heating modes.
- Gently remove the cover of the thermostat from the base by pulling at the top or bottom away from the base. Remove any additional packing and ensure that the magnet is within the two magnet stop pins.
- Feed electrical wires from the system through the two holes above the screw terminals. Wiring must not interfere with the operation of the thermostat. Use electrical material approved by applicable codes.
- Connect the wires to the proper terminals (see diagram 3).
- Install the thermostat on the wall with the mounting screws provided.
- Adjust the heat anticipator pointer (see diagram 4) and adjust to current draw of the heating system (listed in the specifications of the heating system). If this information is not available, check circuit with an ammeter.
- Move the temperature adjusting lever back and forth to ensure bimetal and magnet are free from restrictions.
- Replace the cover onto the base.
- Restore power supply to the air conditioning and heating system.
