- The MAX9814 is a high-quality microphone amplifier with automatic gain control (AGC) and low noise microphone preload. The device features a low-noise preamp, variable gain (VGA), output amplifier, microphone bias generator and AGC control circuit.
- The low-noise preamp has a fixed gain of 12 dB, while VGA gain is automatically adjusted from 20 dB to 0 dB depending on the output voltage and AGC threshold. The output amplifier provides selectable gains of 8dB, 18dB and 28dB. Without compression, cascading the amplifiers results in a total gain of 40 dB, 50 dB or 60 dB.
- A three-stage digital input programs the amplification of the output amplifier. An external resistor divider controls the AGC threshold and a single capacitor programs attack/release times.
- A three-stage digital input programs the ratio of attack to release time. The AGC timeout is set to 30 ms. The low-noise microphone bias generator can preload most electret microphones.
