The VCNL4040 is a convenient 2-in-1 sensor, with a proximity sensor that operates from 0 to 200 mm and light sensor with a range of 0.0125 to 6553 lux.
If you need to measure a small distance with reasonable accuracy, such as the rough height, Vishay VCNL4040 Proximity Sensor can do that for you. If you may also need to measure the amount of light at the same time, you are lucky. The VCNL4040 can do that too.
To make life easier so you can focus on your important work, they took the VCNL4040 and set it up on a breakout PCB along with support circuit so you can use this little wonder with 3.3V (Feather/Raspberry Pi) or 5V (Arduino/Metro328) logic levels. In addition, you can easily connect it with two wires (plus power and ground). Adafruit even included SparkFun Qwiic compatible STEMMA QT connectors for the I2C bus, so you don't even have to solder. Simply wire to your favorite microphone and you can use our CircuitPython/Python or Arduino drivers to easily connect to the VCNL4040 and create approximate approximations in no time.
To give you some way to tune your measurements to your situation, the VCNL4040 allows you to set the integration time (how long the light is measured) to adjust the sensitivity of your measurements depending on the lighting conditions. With an integration time of 80ms, as the sensor only collects measurements for a short period of time, each measured piece of light represents a larger amount of light. For this reason, the maximum range in Lux for the 80ms integration time is 6553.5 lux.

Tracking & Notifications
Every order is fully trackable. You will receive a tracking number via email once your order ships. If your order ships in multiple packages, each package will have its own tracking number. If you don’t receive a shipping confirmation immediately, your order is still being processed and will arrive within the estimated timeframe shown at checkout.

Order Changes & Cancellations
If you need to modify or cancel an order, please contact our customer support team as soon as possible. Orders can only be canceled before they ship. Once shipped, cancellations are not possible, but you may request a return after the item is delivered.

Order Cancellation Policy
