A slide switch works by sliding a slight lever or actuator from side to side, opening and closing an electrical circuit. The actuator has a set of contacts moving inside the switch, which come together to complete a circuit or move apart to break the connection.
SPTD Switch
The pin in the middle is fixed. When the handle is pushed to the left, the two pins on the left are connected, and when it is pushed to the right, the two pins on the right are connected, thus switching the circuit.
