Ikarian honey: The secret ingredient to long life.

On this Greek island, where life expectancy is among the highest in the world, residents credit the local honey.

The honey produced by the bees on Ikaria, a Greek island in the Aegean Sea, is of particularly high quality due to the unique geographical and topographical attributes found on the Island. Honey from the ancient healing Island of Ikaria is medium to dark brown from the special Ikarian mountain pines, medicinal herbs and other unique native island flora. It has a unique, rich flavor that sets it apart from other honeys. Ikaria is a mountainous island, located in the Eastern Aegean Sea, its rough terrain prevents conventional farming. Accordingly, Ikaria is characterized by wild beauty. Visitors to the Island find high mountains with clean mountain air, hot springs, beautiful beaches with clear water and simple friendly people. Ikarians, on average, outlive just about everyone else in the world. Honey from Ikaria contains anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties and is eaten often says Dan Buettner, author of Blue Zones and The Secrets to Living a Long Life. The pollen and nectar collected by the bees is 100% pure and free from any chemicals or pesticides/herbicides normally found in commercial or private farming. The bees are not fed sugar solutions as is typical in commercial apiaries. In addition to the pristine natural setting, there is no industrialization or large commercial enterprise on the island which would normally produce pollutants that despoil both water, land and air. The honey gathering by the bees is undertaken in almost perfect conditions. Numerous wild bushes and native plants abound that contribute to the special quality inherent in the honey produced on Ikaria. Amongst these are Spring White Heather, Greek Strawberry Tree, Wild Lavender, Fall White Heather, Akoniza, Pine, Thyme and Wild Oregano which are natural and unspoiled ground covers that flourish amidst the landscape of the Island

Delicious. Good size and shape of jar; Charcuterie

The jar is great. I tried the plastic flat case some other product ( honey) came in. YUCK! It leaked in shipment! This came clean, and delicious. Great flavor. I use it on my charcuterie board and the jar size is attractive and a nice presentation size.

Good tasting honey and on the bonus side I used the wax to seal the end of a leaking whiskey barrel.

Almost sweet as Tupelo & Comb is yummy

Yes, yes, yes! I am in love with this honey. The comb inside is delicious (and very pretty, if you wonder) and I really like the sweeter taste of this flower honey. I usually stick to raw honey, but I got this mainly so that I could try the honey comb. I am not disappointed at all. A friend asked me about whether or not this honey is all "raw". My answer is that, as far as I can tell, only the comb in this is raw. Raw honey (at least, completely raw) has a distinctive look to it & it's usually very, very thick - almost solid - until wamed. So far, Tupelo is the sweetest of the honey's I've tried. This comes in a very close to that. I'm using this one for my nightly and morning warm water drinks. For that, I use warm water (not hot) and add honey and lemon or just either the honey or the lemon. Depends on what I have on hand. I've been told that drinking warm water is good for the system so I'm trying it. I've known for a while that having a bit of honey in the morning is good for me because it's nutritious. My doc told me that having even a bit of food upon waking is good for the metabolism, but I don't like eating other foods in the morning. I can tell that I'm going to be able to enjoy this honey until it's time to order more. This is just 60 calories per tablespoon. That's nice for when I am doing my fasts and having only water and teas with honey and lemon. There is one question I'm going to post about this: What type flower(s) is it from? I couldn't find that information anywhere online. The honey itself is labeled as an import from Turkey. The brand seems to be well-known among honey lovers. Like I said, I love this honey. The price is really good, considering it's an import. Now, I am going to go ahead and find some more honeycomb.
